Your question is much like substituting the work gun for ouija board. Is if evil in any way? Well, the gun itself is not evil, but it is a powerful tool and playing with it by an untrained person could result in very disasterous results. Ouija boards are devices that assist humans in accessing the spirit world which can normally not be accesses in waking state. It's like being able to get an extra channel on you TV that very few people can get. Ask yourself this question. What is I go to bed tonight and just leave my front door open, could something bad come in. Well something good, something bad, something neither or nothing at all could come in; so would that be an advisable thing to do. I think not. But I do not think that I have yet satisfied your curiosity.
If you are interest in spirit, you will continue to explore, but you do appear to have a well founded and reasonable air of caution about you.
